Automatic Cupping Tester
Automatic Cupping Tester is a BYK-Gardner testing instrument used to evaluate elongation, deformability, flexibility, and adhesion of coatings on metal substrates. This instrument helps users assess the ability of coatings, lacquers, varnishes, or protective coatings to withstand gradual deformation without cracking, peeling, or losing adhesion.
In a cupping test, a coated metal panel is gradually pressed using a punch until the coating surface deforms. Automatic Cupping Tester uses an electro-hydraulic drive to generate stable and repeatable cupping movement, delivering more consistent results compared with manual methods. During the test, users can observe when cracking, detachment, or film damage begins to appear.
Automatic Cupping Tester features a C-opening that accepts both large and small test panels, supports test panels up to 1.5 mm thick, provides a uniform cupping speed of 0.2 mm/sec, and includes a digital display with 0.1 mm resolution. This instrument is suitable for quality control, coating R&D, supplier approval, batch comparison, formulation evaluation, and process validation requiring objective, repeatable, and ISO 1520-compliant coating deformability evaluation.
