BYK-mac i Metallic Color

BYK-mac i metallic color is a multi-angle spectrophotometer from BYK-Gardner designed for measuring color and visual effects on metallic, pearlescent, and effect coatings. This instrument helps users evaluate color changes by viewing angle, light-dark flop, sparkle, graininess, and other visual characteristics commonly found in automotive paints, industrial coatings, plastics, and materials with effect pigments.

In metallic color and effect finish measurement, color can change significantly depending on illumination and observation angles. The BYK-mac i metallic color measures color at multiple angles, including 15°, 25°, 45°, 75°, 110°, plus an additional -15° angle to evaluate color travel in interference pigments. With this multi-angle data, color quality control becomes more objective, repeatable, and easier to compare across batches and production locations.

BYK-mac i metallic color also combines multi-angle color measurement with flake characterization in one portable instrument. It can measure sparkle and graininess, store measurement data, support documentation through smart-chart software, and enable quality control on flat surfaces as well as curved components. This product is suitable for automotive coatings, effect pigment evaluation, coating development, color matching, supplier approval, and metallic finish quality control.
