Zahn-Type Dip Cups
Zahn-Type Dip Cups are BYK-Gardner viscosity cups used to measure and check liquid viscosity quickly, practically, and economically. These tools are suitable for paints, coatings, inks, varnishes, adhesives, resins, lacquers, oils, and other liquid materials requiring flow behavior control in production and quality control processes.
In viscosity testing with Zahn-Type Dip Cups, the cup is dipped into the liquid sample until completely filled, then lifted vertically. The time required until the liquid stream from the orifice breaks is called efflux time or Zahn-Seconds. The longer the flow time, the higher the material viscosity. The measurement results can be used to ensure batch consistency, adjust formulations, and control material readiness before application.
Zahn-Type Dip Cups are made from stainless steel with precision-drilled orifices to support consistent measurement results. These cups are available in several sizes, from Cup No. 1 to Cup No. 5, covering a viscosity range of approximately 20 to 1800 centistokes. Each cup has a 12 inch loop handle and finger ring to help keep the cup vertical during testing. This product is suitable for laboratory testing, shop floor control, production inspection, formulation comparison, and testing according to ASTM D816, ASTM D1084, and ASTM D4212.
