Pendulum Hardness Tester is a BYK-Gardner testing instrument used to evaluate the surface hardness of coatings, paints, varnishes, and protective layers using the pendulum damping method. This instrument helps users assess coating hardness and curing behavior objectively, repeatably, and in accordance with international test standards.

In pendulum hardness testing, a pendulum oscillates on the coating surface, and the time or number of oscillations required for the amplitude to decrease is used as an indicator of coating hardness. A harder coating surface damps the oscillation more slowly, while a softer coating surface damps it more quickly. This method is highly useful for comparing coating formulations, evaluating curing processes, and verifying batch-to-batch quality consistency.

Pendulum Hardness Tester supports both König and Persoz methods for different testing requirements. The König method is commonly used for harder coatings, while the Persoz method is often used for softer coatings or when more sensitive damping evaluation is required.
