ISO Impact Tester
ISO Impact Tester is a BYK-Gardner testing instrument used to evaluate the impact resistance of coatings, paints, varnishes, and protective layers applied to metal substrates. This instrument helps users assess a coating’s ability to withstand sudden impact without cracking, delamination, chipping, or adhesion loss.
In impact resistance testing, the coated panel is fixed on the die using a clamping device, then a falling weight is dropped from a specified height through the guide tube. The impact creates rapid deformation in the test area, and the coating is then inspected for cracks, peeling, or film failure. This method is highly useful for comparing coating formulations, evaluating film flexibility, and validating coating performance against shock or mechanical impact.
ISO Impact Tester is equipped with an anodized guide tube with inch and mm scale, a collar for positioning the falling weight, a basic plate with clamping device, and optional exchangeable falling weights and dies to match testing requirements. This instrument is suitable for architectural coatings, industrial coatings, automotive coatings, protective coatings, powder coatings, coated metal panels, coating R&D, supplier approval, batch comparison, and quality control according to ISO 6272-1.
