Heavy-Duty Impact Tester

Heavy-Duty Impact Tester is a BYK-Gardner testing instrument used to evaluate impact resistance on coatings, paints, plastics, sheet metal, fiberglass, plywood, and various rigid materials. This instrument helps users determine a material or coating layer’s ability to withstand mechanical impact without cracking, flaking, penetration, deformation, or failure.

In coating testing, impact testing can also function as a flexibility test because coated panels may be tested from either the coated side or the reverse impact side. After a weight is dropped from a specified height through the guide tube, the sample is visually inspected or checked using additional inspection methods for signs of failure such as cracking, peeling, chipping, or penetration. This method is highly useful for determining the exact point of failure or establishing pass/fail specifications in quality control.

Heavy-Duty Impact Tester has a robust construction for heavier testing applications compared with light-duty models. The instrument consists of a cast aluminum base, slotted vertical guide tube, round-nosed punch or tup, punch holder, cylindrical steel weights, die, and die support. This product is suitable for architectural coatings, industrial coatings, automotive coatings, protective coatings, powder coatings, plastic sheets, molded plastics, sheet metals, and construction materials requiring repeatable impact resistance evaluation.
